Srinagar: According to a statement, a large contingent of police today prevented Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir leader Shabir Ahmad Shah from going to Kulgam, Kemwah and Bugam. Shah along with his associates was arrested outside the Freedom Party office as soon as he tried to march ahead.
While condemning the act and Shahs arrest, HCJK spokesperson in a statement said that the so-called worlds largest democracy should realize that during a brief period of three years, i.e. 2008 to 2010, it has slapped PSA upon its political opponent and HCJK leader Shabir Ahmad Shah six times, just to prevent him from meeting people.
And after a great judicial struggle, Shah was then released in 2011. Since then, Shah is either put under house arrest or is arrested on one pretext or other. The total period for which Shah was either put to house arrest or lodged in police stations has reached 1 year 6 months and 15 days. During this period, he was prevented from offering 123 Friday and six Eid prayers, the spokesperson while condemning the autocratic act of authorities said.
He said that Shah was scheduled to address gatherings organized by Freedom Party in Kulgam, Kemwah and Budgam but authorities feel no shame in prevented Shabir Ahmad Shah from meeting people. Their claims of being democratic are just jokes. They suppress their political opponents by the dint of power and might which is extremely condemnable, he added.
Following HCJK leader Shabir Ahmad Shahs call of holding post-Friday protests against Israeli aggression in Gaza, Freedom Party zonal president Fayaz Ahmad Sodagar today led protest demonstrations in south Kashmirs Islamabad. The protestors chanted anti-Israel and pro-Palestine slogans.
