Srinagar: Hundreds of residents of Qamarwari area of Srinagar city Friday staged a massive peaceful protest against the alleged excesses by the Central Reserve Police Force . The CRPF personnel had allegedly damaged at least four dozen private vehicles and bikes on Thursday evening. Police said the matter was being probed.
Eyewitnesses said that that the residents of Qamarwari chowk and the Halka Committee Masjid Ibrahim took to streets soon after Friday prayers and held protests against the forces. They said that CRPF personnel stationed at Shah Cinema without any provocation last evening ransacked the residential house, beat up the locals and caused damage to scores of private parked vehicles in the area.
Look at my vehicle (JK01F-1786). Even the goons won’t do this. What was our fault, a resident Ali Muhammad Kar said. Another protestor said that CRPF personnel smashed the glasses of his private vehicle (DLG-C54821) completely.
The protestors said that chowki officer Qamarwari had assured them that police would register a case against erring CRPF personnel, however, they did not.
Despite repeated attempts CRPF spokesman , Kishore Prasad could not be contacted, however, a police official said that CRPF has reported to them that some people threw stones on them last evening when they were on patrol. He said that they are investigating the matter and have recorded the statements of civilians.
