NC, Congress delay decision on poll alliance

Srinagar: With few months left in the forthcoming assembly elections, the coalition partners Congress and NC are tight lipped over entering into any pre-poll pact, with both the parties maintaining that the decision shall be taken in near future.

The Congress state spokesman Ravinder Sharma said that the issue of pre-poll alliance is the decision that could be taken by the high command and that the state Congress will follow the decision accordingly. The option of pre-poll alliance is neither open and nor closed. We can only say that the party is seriously discussing over the issue with the feedback from the workers being given the top priority, maintained the Congress spokesman.

Over the reports that the party is still in a fix over the issuance of tickets to its leaders for the assembly elections, Sharma remarked that there are several issues that need to be resolved ahead of nominating the candidates for the polls. This is not necessary that the Congress party would follow the suits of other regional parties who are at present busy in issuing tickets. Our poll strategy is different. We act in our own style. There must be no confusion over the issue, he said, adding that the decision of the pre- poll is one of the issues that the party is yet not issuing tickets to its candidates. However, the ruling national conference said that the issue of finalizing the pre-poll alliance with its present ally Congress has yet not been taken and that no development over this has so far taken place.

The provincial president NC, Nasir Aslam Wani said over phone that the decision of pre-poll will be taken by the party president and that NC has authorized its leadership to take final call over the issue.
