Srinagar: President Doctors Association Kashmir Dr Nisar ul Hassan today in a statement said that it is irresponsible and unacceptable of traffic police officials helplessness to stop the reckless driving of Army Vehicles. It was reckless driving by army convoy that recently killed seven people in a deadliest motorway crash. This statement from traffic police is an excuse to shy away from their responsibility of safe travel on road.
The statement said, that traffic police are custodians of traffic laws and have an obligation to enforce them for road safety. They have to inculcate driving etiquette and hold people accountable for breaking traffic laws.
Every state is dutiful to enforce standard traffic rules as defined by an international treaty under the authority of United Nations in Vienna Convention on Road Traffic. Army Personals are not above traffic laws and rules of the road. They should be hold responsible for reckless driving and punished for breaking traffic laws as it is the accountability that makes people to follow rules. In order to make roads safe for travel, traffic laws have to be completely criminalized as is in South Carolina (State of United States) where reckless driving is a misdemeanor crime and punishment for conviction is severe.
