SRINAGAR: Suspected militants shot dead a former government gunman in broad day light in Khudwani market of South Kashmirs Kulgam district, reports said Wednesday.
Police sources said that Gowhar Ahmed Matoo son of Bashir Ahmed resident of Ganjipora Kulgam was on way to his home when unidentified gunmen appeared before him near Khudwani market and shot two bullets in his head at point blank range. Gowhar died on spot. We have registered a case and investigation has been taken up, SP Kulgam Mumtaz Ahmed said.
Eyewitnesses said that soon after the incident, traders closed down their shops as a result the market wore a deserted look. Police, Army and Para-military troopers rushed to the spot and started a search operation, however, no arrest was made during the operation.
Reports said that the slain was a former government gunmen who had recently joined Territorial Army and was posted in a nearby camp in Kulgam.
