Srinagar: Panic gripped the protestors after a personal security guard accompanying an unknown politician fired some gunshots in the air when the protesters gathered around the jeep both were traveling by.
Reports quoting Police sources said that soon after Friday prayers, scores of youth were marching at Nowhatta Chowk when a jeep happened to ply on the road. “The protesters threw stones and wanted to storm the vehicle,” the reports quoting Police said.
When some youth threw stones at the vehicle policeman who was deployed to guard the politician alighted and resorted to aerial firing. The unknown security guard fired at least three bullets in the air that created panic in the area, a police official wishing not to be named said.
Eyewitnesses said that protestors tried to corner the gypsy amid firing shots, however, it managed to escape from the scene through Malarata locality.
We are trying to find out who this security guard was but the initial investigation has revealed that it was a government gypsy car, a police official said.
