Srinagar: Under transfer Block Development officer allegedly disbursed Rs 64 lakh among contractors under MNREGA scheme on her last day in the office while the Budgam district authorities after receiving complaints sealed the official record and are investigating the matter.
Official sources said that Block Development Officer for Block Budgam was transferred to District Commissioner Office Baramulla. Sources added that on her last day in Budgam office, the BDO in league with four other employees disbursed Rs 64 lakhs among contractors under MNREGA scheme.
Reports said that as the act of the BDO came to fore, workers and employees staged protest outside DC office Budgam and demand thorough probe into the matter. Acting on the directions of DC Budgam, a team of officials headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Budgam Ajaz Ahmed Bhat raided the office and found some important documents including cheque books, withdrawals and dispatches missing from the office. We are investigating the matter, the official said.
Despite repeated attempts the accused BDO Nuzhat Qureshi could not be contacted. (CNS)
