SRINAGAR: The 409th birth anniversary Guru Hargobind Ji was celebrated Saturday with religious fervour and enthusiasm while a big congregational event was held at Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara at Rainawari in Srinagar to celebrate the occasion.
Guru Hargobind Singh was born in1595. He succeeded Guru Arjun as the sixth Guru in 1606, at the age of eleven years.
Thousands of devotees from Sikh community thronged the Gurduwara to attend Shabadh Kirtan and Langer. Apart from others, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and National Conference senior leader Nasir Aslam Wani personally attended the Chatti Padshahi gathering while Governor NN Vohra greeted the people on the occasion.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation had kept special arrangements in place outside Gurudawaras for the celebrations while the SMC Commissioner, Dr GN Qasba early in the morning took stock of the arrangements.
SMC official said that the sanitation work was completed by the wee hours before devotees thronged the shrines.
The Traffic police had also kept arrangements in place while the DIG and SP Traffic personally monitored the traffic regulation to the Gurudwaras. (CNS)
