CM says will quit politics if BJP got majority in JK
SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday said he was not a part of security meeting being held during Prime Minister Modis JK visit and that he had no scheduled meeting with the PM in the state.
I have no idea, because I am not a part of that meeting. I have no scheduled meeting with the PM during this visit. I met him in Delhi a few weeks ago and discussed issues regarding the State then, said Omar during a newspaper interview. About the sharp separatist reaction to the project of bringing Pandits back to live in segregated colonies, Omar stated that this was the “double speak” from the separatist leadership here. We are encouraging Kashmiri Pandits to return. We are saying you are welcome to consider group housing. 4-5-6 of you get together and get a plot of land. Why should we have a problem with a group housing project that blends in with the community in the place you choose to live in? I see no problem with that. The idea is not to put Pandits into ghettos. The idea is to get them to assimilate back into the community they left at one point of time.
Commenting over Modis visit to the state, Omar stated that the same is significant, given that it is so early in Modis tenure. Also the fact that he is combining visits to Jammu with the Kashmir is also to be noted because in the past we have had either or visits. It is an opportunity created for him by the previous government, because both the projects he is inaugurating were actually ready for the previous government, but for reasons best known to them and in spite of our concerted efforts we couldnt get anyone from the previous government to inaugurate these projects.
Meanwhile the Chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday challenged that he will quit politics if BJP gets majority in the state elections. He stated further that the party in no way is able to get the majority in future.
Omar while talking to reporters stated that he doesnt want to see that day when the BJP gets majority of the seats in JK and forms the government. I will retire from the politics and go in hibernation, Omar said while replying to the question posed to him by the newsmen over the claims of BJP of getting majority in the forthcoming polls in JK. On the meeting between Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in Srinagar, Omar said, Ask this question to Azad or Mufti. But my take is that if there is meeting to be held, why to go for secret meeting? Just go and hold an open meeting.
The day I will have to hold meeting with Mufti I will go and meet him in his residence publicly. Secret meeting does not give a good signal within the coalition government, he said. Omar also expressed his anger over the reports that Congress is holding meetings in the areas controlled by NC MLAs at present.
Omar while commenting over the pre-poll alliance with the state Congress for the assembly elections- scheduled to be held by the end of this year- stated that the party has not taken any decision over the issue and that the final all into the matter shall be taken in the near future. However, the chief minister maintained that the workers and activists of both the Congress and of the national conference raise voices that both the parties must contest polls separately. In my party, there are most of the people who do not want that elections should be fought in alliance with Congress. But the final decision would be taken by Dr Farooq Abdullah. But I do not feel that he will be able to reject the demand of the party workers, he said.
