Srinagar: A group of touts, according to some tourism-related tradesmen, frequently roam in and around Clock Tower area of Lal Chowk Srinagar, Tuesday thrashed a teenaged driver mercilessly after the victim foiled the attempts of these touts to exploit some tourists.
Quoting eyewitnesses CNS reported that few tourists alighted from an Innova vehicle (JK01J-9566) driven by a teen near clock tower Lal Chowk. A group of brokers tried to persuade these tourists to visit their respective hotels with a view to charge handsome amount from them.
A shopkeeper present on the spot said that the teen driver asked these brokers not to annoy their guests (tourists) and tried to stop them from following those tourists. This thing they could not digest and all of a sudden these brokers pounced on the teen driver and ruthlessly beat him up. The incident attracted the attention of passersby and before they could caught hold of them, they fled from the spot, he said.
Another trader said that it is irony that a group of goons almost killed a youth in broad day light while at a place where police remains alert round the clock, not a single policeman was spotted. Reports said that it was only after people tried to take the victim to the hospital, some police personnel visited the spot to inquire about the matter.
A police official said that a case has been registered in this regard and hunt has been launched to nab the assailants.
