KUPWARA: Heavy rains and hailstorm Saturday evening damaged paddy crop, vegetables and fruit in different parts of north Kashmir.
In Handwara, Braripora, Chotipora, Kulangam, Darishpora, Chogal and its adjoining villages in Handwara area of Kupwara district, farmers said that heavy rains and hailstorm damaged paddy and maize crops.
They said that the hailstorm also hit fruit orchards and vegetable fields.
The hailstorm continued for about 10 to 15 minutes in many areas and damaged paddy, maize, fruit and vegetables, said Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a farmer.
The hailstorm also affected fruits in most parts of Kupwara including Lolab belt and Kralpora. The farmers appealed the authorities to compensate the loss caused due to hailstorm.
On June 26, the hailstorm had damaged paddy crop, vegetable fields and fruit orchards at Rafiabad, Laser, Saripara, Budden Tragpora and Rohama in Baramulla district.
