Srinagar: Interim Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir Prof AM Shah Tuesday chaired an important meeting of the Standing Committee of the Academic Council of KU during which several academic issues were discussed.
During the meeting threadbare discussions were held on a range of issues including introduction of new courses, statutory matters, up gradation of infrastructure at newly opened campuses, establishment of engineering college, improving the examination system, IT support and promoting research activities.
Besides Dean Academic Affairs KU Prof MA Wani, Dean Research Prof Khursheed Andrabi, Dean College Development Council Prof GM Shah, Registrar KU Prof ZA Reishi and Controller of Exams Prof AS Bhat the meeting was attended by several Deans, Heads of various departments and other members of the Standing Committee.
During the meeting Prof AM Shah stressed on the need to expand and provide quality education.
University is getting importance nationally and internationally and we have to take a collective approach; we have to build and consolidate our position in new campuses and at the same time provide quality education, Prof. Shah said.
Prof Shah impressed upon the members to expedite their efforts for the establishment of Engineering College at Zakura Campus so that the campus could be made operational as early as possible for the benefit of the student community.
The meeting besides discussing the possibility of introduction of three new courses in the faculty of engineering also took stock of new initiatives being launched at KU with the start of fresh academic session of 2014.
