Srinagar: Leaders of all hues Tuesday condemned the killing of Sopore youth Arshad Ahmed Shah of Naseem Bagh Sopore who was killed after government forces resorted to indiscriminate firing on protestors at Sopore on Monday.
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, while strongly condemning the killing, expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
We condemn the killing of the youth as this act once again shows that the troops stationed in Kashmir have no respect for human rights or the lives of the common people here, the statement said.
Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir described the killing as an inhuman act by government forces. It has demanded impartial probe by some high level independent judicial commission into the incident and punishment to the guilty.
Democratic Liberation Party Chairman Hashim Qureshi while condemning the killing of Sopore youth said that in the garb of democracy, worst type of imperialism has been imposed upon the hapless Kashmiri people. He said that Kashmiri people are not even allowed to express their anguish and displeasure against the autocracy they have been subjected to.
Condemning the killing, Hurriyat Conference Jammu & Kashmir said that the killing of yet another youth on the streets of Sopore has once again proved that New Delhi considers Kashmiri people as its conquered slaves and its armed forces kill them at will with impunity.
President, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), Dr Nasir-ul-Hassan while condemning the killing of youth and injuries to four others by security forces at Sopore termed it a barbaric and brutal act.
By resorting to indiscriminate firing on peaceful protestors shows sheer frustration and anger of security forces. Security forces in Kashmir are on a killing spree and have been granted right to kill under draconian laws. They are provided with absolute immunity for all atrocities. The failures of state to bring security forces to justice make them believe that they are above law and can violate human rights with impunity. Probes and inquiries are eyewash as we have witnessed in past how killers are protected and inquiries go to trash, he said.
Democratic Political Movement General Secretary Advocate Muhammad Shafi Reshi termed the killing as a barbaric act and said that this is worst example of brutality and barbarism.
Awami National Conference while condemning the killing of Sopore youth questioned how long the innocent people would be fed with bullets.
The call of the day was for the masses of the state to stand against this incessant spree of gruesome killing and efforts to hold the government accountable as till date no regime had succeeded to stop this reign of terror and brutality, the party said in a statement.
Former Member Parliament chairman National Democratic Front, Abdul Rashid Kabli called upon the international community to adopt a proactive approach to resolve long standing Kashmir dispute according to UN resolutions, wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people.
Hurriyat Conference (M) senior leader Javid Ahmad Mir, while condemning the killing, said that such type of atrocities only strengthen our resolve to see the forces out of our mother land.
Kashmir Tehreek Khawateen, Chairperson Zamrooda Habib while paying tributes to the slain youth, expressed solidarity and sympathy with the family. She appealed the international human rights organizations to take a strong notice of bloodshed and human rights violations in Kashmir perpetrated by armed forces.
The International Forum for Justice and Human Rights -JK (IFJHR-JK) demanded that culprits involved in the killing be brought to book.
Senior Hurriat leader and chairman Salvation movement Zaffar Akber Bhat who is under house arrest strongly condemned the firing on innocent youth and said despite of zero tolerance promises made by Indian Prime Minister, HR violation at the hands of Indian armed forces continue in Kashmir. He also condemned the imposition of Curfew and restriction in Sopore town.
