PESHAWAR: Unknown gunmen shot dead Pashto singer Gulnaz, alias Muskan in Peshawar Thursday morning.
According to reports, armed men broke into her house late last night and began firing after an argument broke out between her family and the suspects.
She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment where she succumbed to her injuries.
The family of the deceased singer said four people had come to the house and after a verbal scuffle had opened fire on Gulnaz.
The police have registered a case on a complaint by Gulnazs brother Sadaqat.
The singer originally hails from Par Hoti area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwas Mardan district.
Police has launched an investigation into the murder.
According to local media reports Gulnaz had married three times and had some personal enmities.
However, attacks against female singers are not uncommon in KPK.
A young actress suffered burn injuries in June last year when she had acid hurled at her while she was sleeping.
The 18-year-old, known as Bushra and popular in the northwest for her film, television and theatre appearances, was attacked at her home in the town of Nowshera.
Another popular Pakistani singer Ghazala Javed, 24, was shot dead by gunmen as she left a beauty salon in Peshawar two years ago over a dispute with her ex-husband.
