Srinagar: The world famous Dal Lake is fast shrinking due to unabated illegal constructions in and around the endangered water body, CNS reported Thursday. These brazen violations, according to the report, are happening under the very nose of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority ?LAWDA, the state authority supposed to conserve the lake.
Locals alleg that during night hours scores of tippers unload construction material while LAWDA officials act as mute spectators.
You please verify yourself. During late hours tipper movement is visible on the famous Boulevard road while some tippers appear from Telbal side. From Dalgate to Telbal and on the fringes of Dal Lake in Rainawari, the illegal constructions are going on, a local Muhammad Yaseen said.
Another resident Nazir Ahmed said that the restrictions as laid down in the master plans drafted from time to time, have not been implemented strictly by concerned departments responsible for conservation and preservation of Dal. And with the result mushroom of illegal constructions are coming up, he said.
Locals suspect a nexus between violators and the law enforcing agency. Acting Vice Chairman of LAWDA Shafat Noor responded thus: ” I will inform my enforcement team to ascertain the facts. We will take stern action against the offenders. We have already passed the instructions to the enforcement team keep a strict vigil and take on spot action against the guilty, he said.
