Srinagar: Kashmiri pandits associated with different organizations Wednesday staged a protest in Press Enclave Srinagar against the discriminatory attitude of state and central government towards the community. They warned if their demands are not met they will jointly observe fast unto-death in Summer Capital Srinagar on the Janamashtami Day (August 17) this year.
Scores of Kashmiri Pandits who were part of the protest demonstration served ultimatum to the both to state and central government to fulfil the promise of initiating final and fruitful dialogue with them on six point charter of demands including re-drafting and passing of pending Kashmir temples and shrines bill in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, probe into the multi-crore temple and shrines land encroachment in Kashmir, dialogue with Pakistan for facilitating visit to Shardha Peeth Temple in Pakistan administered Kashmir, establishment of Shardha Peeth University in J&K, one time compensation for over-aged Kashmiri Hindu youth outside Valley and special employment package for Hindus of Kashmir living in Valley.
The protestors also demanded minority status for the community and removal of nomenclature like migrants or non-migrants from official communication and designation asking for the word Kashmiri Pandit in every official communication. We have also written an open letter to Indian Prime Minister, reminding him about their demands, president Kashmiri Pandit Sangharash Samiti Sanjay Tickoo.
Police exercised maximum restraint and did not use any force after the protestors tried to break police cordon and came on the main road leading to city centre Lal Chowk. The protestors later on dispersed peacefully.
