Srinagar: Dozens of adhoc employees from Public Health Department staged protest demonstration, seeking regularization of ITI-educated employees who were engaged on daily-wage basis.
“At least 2000 boys, who are pass outs from the Industrial Training Institute, were engaged on daily-wage basis in 2005. Nine years have elapsed but we are still being paid a monthly stipend of Rs 4600. We want justice,” said an agitated employee who got so agitated while describing the hardships that he went topless and fainted. He said the financial constraints were forcing the adhoc ITIs to commit suicide. “We can’t take it any longer. If the government cannot take a decision, we will be forced to take sterner measures.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday asked the Finance Department to “finalize” all the cases of regularization within one month. The Finance Department has long been “studying” the recommendations regarding the regularization of adhoc employees, who put in equal labor as the regular employees during the day job with the government departments.
