Srinagar: Accusing New Delhi of nurturing ill intentions about Jammu and Kashmir, CPI (M) state secretary Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Monday said that Narenda Modi led Central Government is hell bent to divide the State besides changing its demography.
Adessing a press conference in Srinagar, Tarigami said that it seems BJP on the behest of Hindu zealot organization RSS is mulling to trifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It seems plans are afoot to make Jammu a separate state and granting Union Territory status to Ladakh
is part of the some plan he said adding that it is unfortunate that from the very first Modi led government raked up contentious Article 370 issue.
He vehemently criticized BJP for raking up the controversial issue of article 370 and
reiterated that Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have remained a plural society and it cant be bifurcated or trifurcated.
Tarigami further said that the Article 370 constitutes the basic structure of Indian constitution as such cant be amended even under Article 368. This article defines our relation with the country. It is a question of federalism and Kashmir issue is the testing ground for the Indian federalism he added.
Holding previous regimes of Jammu and Kashmir responsible for eroding and weakening Article 370, he said that due to various presidential ordinances that were issued from time to time, this article is just an emaciated husk now. He said through illegal and unconstitutional amendments, this article was made feeble as a result the state witnessed uncertainty and militancy.
Tarigami also said that the erosions have undermined the relation of J&K with the union of India. We suggest that the present regime should wake up to the realities and all those amendments made until now should be annulled to restore the autonomy that the state enjoyed before 1953 he demanded.
Tarigami blamed the political leaders of the state for assisting New Delhi in implementing the amendments illegally made out by central governments.
Expressing hope that there is sufficient ground in the country to prevent the present regime from alienating the masses of valley, the south Kashmir legislator alleged that the present regime is being led and dictated by RSS which has again led to the apprehensions among the people of the valley. This government needs to be reined in he stressed.
It has to be borne in mind that Kashmir opted for India in the tumultuous year of 1947, not only by virtue of the Instrument of Accession but for the secular credentials of India and on the promise of being granted a special status and the maximum degree of autonomy within the Union. This promise is enshrined in Article 370 and the constitution of J&K itself, he said.
Tarigami also castigated the Minority affairs Minister, Najma Heptullah for her comments regarding Muslims that they are not minority in India. The remarks of the newly sworn in BJP ministers, Thavarachand Gehlot and Najma Heptullah regarding religious minorities are condemnable. These ministers at the behest of RSS have almost made it clear that the small concessions advanced to Muslims and other minorities should be withawn. They also opposed the 4.5% reservation in government jobs for minorities. Najma Heptullah trying to prove herself more loyal than the King, went a step further and said that Muslims in India do not constitute a minority at all. These assertions have been made, despite the fact that Justice Sachar Committee report on the economic and social status of the Muslims clearly indicates that on the basis of several parameters, their living conditions are below than SCs and STs. The real reason behind anti Muslim policies is to advance the core communal agenda and sharpen polarization of political gains and creation of a vote bank based on religious fanaticism and fundamentalism, he said.
