SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday disclosed that his party Awami Action Committee will hold a grand public rally in Srinagar on June 20. “The rally,” Mirwaiz said in a statement, “Will be strong rejoinder to those who accuse our brothers of fatigue in the resistance.”
The rally will kick-start yearlong “Golden Jubilee” celebrations of his ancestral party Peoples Action Committee, locally known as Awami Action Committee.
Addressing a gathering at historic Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz stated that AAC has always fought for the usurped rights of Kashmiris, adding, its leaders and workers have offered huge sacrifices to keep the popular sentiment alive. He stated that AAC leaders and activists were from time to time subjected to interminable sufferings and have faced brutal oppression for demanding the right of self determination, adding further that AAC has never bowed before the forces of oppression nor has it got tired of the struggle.
Hurriyat M Chairman said that the movement which was started by Muhajar-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Yousuf Shah under the banner of Muslim Conference in 1931 was taken forward by Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq in 1964 by announcing the formation of AAC at Gol Bagh during a rally attended by lakhs of people.
Apart from spreading the religious message of Islam in Kashmir, the Mirwaizain of Kashmir have always from the pulpit of Jamia Masjid loudly spoken against the political, social and religious exploitation of Kashmiris. Mirwaiz stated that AAC was the only organization which has remained steadfast on its stand like a rock and had always strived for an amicable and long lasting resolution of Kashmir dispute for the past 50 years. He stated that in spite of all the difficulties and hurdles created in the path of the party to take forward its agenda, the party has not given up its resolve and has always advocated and stood for the solution of Kashmir in accordance with the aspirations and sentiments of the people. He said the June 20 rally will be an answer to those who have been harping on the allegations that “we are tired of the resistance”.
As AAC was going to celebrate its 50th Foundation year, Mirwaiz thanked the youth whose ancestors espoused the ideology of Awami Action Committee and kept it alive with their support and sacrifices. He announced the 50th year celebrations would continue for one year during which various events would be held on different levels.
Mirwaiz announced that as per the program the supporters of the party from all parts of Kashmir will converge on June 20, 2014 at Jamia Masjid Srinagar from where they will march towards Municipal Park Srinagar so as to bring alive the memories of June 20, 1964 the foundation day of AAC.
