Shopian: Scores of people armed with AK-47 rifles attacked and thrashed the family members of a fruit grower in Wathoo area of South Kashmirs Shopian district on Sunday night.
Police sources said that one Muhammad Maqbool Shiekh son of Muhammad Shaban resident of Janwal Pulwama possessing an orchard at Wathoo Shopian was camping in his temporary shed along with his family.
On Sunday night some armed men attacked his shed and thrashed the family members mercilessly. The assailants left the place after Maqbool Shiekh was seriously injured, a police official said adding that they are investigating the matter and police has launched a hunt to nab these assailants.
He said that a case vide FIR number 97/2014 under section 34, 395, 447, 427, 506 and 7/25 of arms act have been registered against the attackers.
Police identified some of assailants as Rashid Mir, Ahsan Mir, Ahad Wani, Aftab Mir, Rayees Mir, Farooq Malik, Bilal Malik, Akbar Sher and Farooq Wani. Police is trying to find out where from these people secured the arms. Everything would be clear once they are arrested, police official said adding that it seems to be a case of personal animosity.
