SRINAGAR: The non-resident Kashmiris living in Shimla have accused that they are being unnecessarily harassed and compelled to leave the place and that raids are being carried out at their homes with the authorities acting as the mute spectators.
According to the reports received by KNS, several families living in Shimla prior to the partition of India, at present are accusing that the local waqf board and police is harassing them every day and that they are being forced to leave the place.
Our fore fathers used to earn their livelihood in Shimla, we are doing the same and are workers as the labourers in the region to earn for our families. We have been resident here since 1947 but presently we are being forced to migrate from here, said Nazir Ahmad Mir.
Another labourer namely Ghulam Nabi Hadi stated that they have been residing near the local mosque of Shimla from years now and that they smoothly were earning for their families. From the last few days, we are being harassed at large and that night raids are being carried out by the police- ordering us to leave the place. The local wafq board is also hand in glove with the police here and that no remedial measures are being taken by the Shimla authorities to end our growing woes.
Another labourer Mohammad Abas Wani told KNS over phone from Shimal that of they are evacuated from this place, they would have no source of income and that their families and children will starve. What other source of income we have. We work as the labourers here and if we leave this place, we will no source of the livelihood. Our government has to think about this crisis.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir A.G. Mir assured to take up the matter with Shimla police authorities. (KNS)
