SRINAGAR: A woman group on Saturday staged a protest against Shopian double rape and murder here in summer capital.
Jammu and Kashmir Women Democratic Forum (JKWDF) chairperson Tanveer Fatima said she and her party workers staged a protest in Press Enclave against the rape and murder of two Shopian women Asiya and Neelofar five years back in 2009.
The two women, Asiya and Neelofar were first raped and then murdered on May 30, 2009 in Shopian but the perpetrators are still roaming free, Fatima alleged.
She said: The perpetrators will not be forgiven by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and said, it was Omer Abdullah who said that Asiya and Neelofer are my sisters and I will not lose any chance to give them justice and now it is good time for Omer Abdullah to fulfill his promise by putting the culprits behind the bars.
Fatima said that the CBI in its report shielded the guilty people, she alleged.
Demanding investigation, she said: The issues like the rape & murder, discovery of unmarked mass graves and disappearances must be probed by independent commission. Fatima express solidarity with the bereaved family.
On the occasion, her party activists raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
