Shopkeeper gunned down in Shopian

Shopian: Unknown armed men have gunned down a shopkeeper in Shopian Monday night, Police said.

Family members of 28-year-old shopkeeper Naseer Yousuf Mir who hails from Guglora Pinjora Shopian said, “Four to five masked men who were armed with AK-47 rifles barged into our house and caught hold of Naseer.  When they tried to drag him out of the house we intervened and made an effort to foil their bid but the gunmen scared us away,” CNS quoted one of the family members as said.

Naseer’s family says the assailants had locked the house after dragging him out of his room. “We spent the whole night in distress and our hearts sank when we heard some gun shots at around 3:30 am in the morning,” he said.

The armed gunmen reportedly after abducting Naseer shot him dead at an orchard, few paces down his residence. “We heard some gunshots during the dead of the night while in the morning we found a bullet ridden dead body in an orchard,” a resident of Kilura said adding that they immediately informed the police.

Naseer Yousf Mir, a college pass-out was running a shop in his locality. CNS reported that Naseer had in past been detained by police under Public Safety Act for having links with the local militants.

Superintendent of Police Shopian Showkat Ahmed said a case had been registered and the investigation was going on. “Initial investigation has revealed that a local militant from Pahlipora hamlet might be involved in his brutal killing. We are not sure yet but certainly the police will crack the case in coming days,” Showkat added.
