Pulwama: Police resorted to firing of tear-smoke shells in South Kashmirs Pulwama town Tuesday when scores of protestors took to streets against the arrest of youth during random raids that were conducted during night in different parts of the town.
Sources said that police and Special Operation Group personnel conducted nocturnal raids in four different hamlets of Pulwama district and arrested the wanted stone pelters’. The arrested youth according to police are involved in stone pelting and arson.
Police have identified the four arrested youth as Shabir Ahmed Magray son of Abdul Ahad resident of New Colony, Bilal Ahmed Teli son of Assudullah of Bandzoo, Jehangir Ahmed Bhat son of Muhammad Yousuf resident of Nainbatapora and Bashir Ahmed Wagay son of Muhammad Shaban resident of Sirnoo Pulwama.
Reports said hundreds of protestors from Sirnoo village marched towards Pulwama main town to stage a protest against these arrests. However, police foiled their bid and stopped them near Dalipora. Police burst tear-smoke shells to disperse the protestors. Several protesters sustained injuries in police action. My son is innocent. He is not involved in any stone pelting incident. Police has framed him in a false case, the mother of Bashir Ahmed Wagay alleged.
A police official, however, said that all the arrested youth were evading arrest for past many days.
