Srinagar, May 20: The body of Fahim Asgar, a three-year-old boy of Khanyar who was missing since May 6, was finally fished out on Tuesday from Wullar Lake reportedly by locals. Reports said that the body of the child was finally traced by Laharwalpora on the banks of Wullar. He said the village, about 60 kilometers from Fahim’s residence in Old City’s Nawpur, is located on the banks of the lake in Bandipora district.
The deceased child was believed to have slipped into the Nawpur-Babedemb stream on the evening of May 6. On Thursday last week Indian Navys specially trained deep divers, Marcos had joined operations in Nawpur locality of Old City to search the missing boy.
The parents of the deceased child have said that the boy was afraid of going near water bodies and that is why they initially suspected kidnapping.
Meanwhile, a police statement said that the body of Fahim son of Mohammad Asgar Lone resident of Nowpora, Khanyar, who was reported to be missing from his home since 6th May has been fished out from Wullar lake near Leharwalpora in Bandipora district today.
The body of deceased boy has been handed over to his relatives. Police had launched a massive search for the missing boy, said the police spokesman adding that his father Firdous Ahmad identified Fahim’s body. It may be recalled that mysterious disappearance of the boy had initially triggered protests in the area.
Expediting its search operation to trace the boy, the Inspector General of Police A G Mir on Monday visited Khanyar to review the progress. Mir who also met the parents of missing boy assured them that police were trying its best to trace the boy as quickly as possible.
