Srinagar, May 20 : Taking cognizance of the complaints by some tourists visiting the State and in view of the reports published in local media regarding the sale of Kashmir arts and crafts by the unauthorized Handicraft dealers and street hawkers operating in various tourist areas, special enforcement teams keep round the clock vigil in all the tourist areas of Jammu & Kashmir State. These teams have been authorized to take on spot action against any dealer found violating the norms of Tourist Trade Act 1978
In this connection, the field inspection team of Quality Control Division, conducted inspection in Boulevard area to check the growth of unauthorized street hawkers who indulge in selling fake machine made handicrafts to the gullible tourists in the name of Kashmir arts. On spot fine was imposed upon such hawkers and an amount of Rs. 10,000/- was recovered as fine from them. Furthermore they were also warned not to indulge in such practices in future.
All the visiting tourists are hereby informed to purchase Kashmir handicrafts only from the dealers who are registered with the Department of Handicrafts under Tourist Trade Act 1978 and should refrain from purchasing cheap/fake products from unauthorized street Hawkers.
