Srinagar: A Kashmiri army man was among two soldiers who were killed in two different incidents of violence that occurred since Sunday night. A soldier was killed when a landmine, which the army said was planted by militants, went off causing fatal injuries to the soldiers who were patrolling the frontier Pallanwala sector of Line of Control in Jammu’s Akhnoor area. Another soldier was killed during a fierce gunfight in Budgam’s Chadoora town on Monday.
Reports said during a fierce gun battle between militants and Government Forces in Kaisermula area of Central Kashmirs Chadora town on Monday, four Army jawans were wounded while one of them reportedly succumbed to his injuries. The militants who according to police were five in number managed go fled from the encounter site.
Quoting army sources, CNS reported that after receiving an input about the presence of some militants in a house located at Kaisermulla Chadoora, Army’s combat team from 53 RR, SOG and CRPF personnel cordoned off the area and started a combing operation to flush out the militants.
Reports said that militants were hiding in the house of a police constable Bashir Ahmed Magray son of Sanaullah Magray. As the joint government forces party approached towards the house, militants resorted to indiscriminate firing that created panic in the area. The government forces retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for hours.
Army sources said that that four security personnel were wounded in militant firing while one of them reportedly died in the hospital. The slain army man was identified as Mushtaq Mir of 162 Territorial Army. Defence spokesperson N.N.Joshi confirmed that four army jawans were injured, he however said that one among them was critical.
Reports said that all the militants managed to flee from the house while government forces launched a massive manhunt to locate the militants. Eyewitnesses said that government forces extended their cordon up to Nowgugh village and search operation was going on till reports last came in.
Defense spokesperson said that the operation was going on to track down the militants.
Meanwhile An Army soldier from Maratha Light Infantry was killed while two others were injured after suspected infiltrators fired upon them near Akhnoor Jammu. The slain soldier was identified as Sepoy Bhikale Uttam Balu.
A Defense spokesperson said that an Army patrol was targeted by mines and small arms fire by a group of unidentified armed personnel in Akhnoor sector of Jammu Division.
Reports said that the Army man was killed while two others suffered injuries when they went to rescue a colleague, hurt in a landmine blast. After brief gunfight, the infiltrators managed to escape the scene.
Army said that search of the area yielded Pakistan-made antipersonnel mines and other equipment, which clearly suggested involvement of Pakistan and militants from across the line of control. General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps, expressed his deepest condolences to the family of Sepoy Bhikale, who is survived by his wife and a daughter. Search operations were in progress till the reports last came in.
