Bandipora: After remaining closed for nearly 5-months, the 83-km Gurez-Bandipora road would be thrown open for vehicular movement on Tuesday. The 14,000-feet high Razdan pass, which connects Gurez Valley with Bandipora District, was thrown open on temporary basis on May 15, however it was closed on the same day after fresh snowfall. This pass received very heavy snowfall during the winter months leading to the closure of road for 5-months.
Border Roads Organization Commander Colonel Murli Dhar said that BRO used sophisticated machines to clear the snow on the road which was closed on December 12last year due to heavy snowfall. The first convoy of vehicles from Gurez would be flagged off by GOC, 15 Corpus Commander Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh and Chief Engineer Border Roads Organization Brigadier R.K.Sharma Others present on the occasion would be District Developmental Commissioner Bandipora, Shah Faisal and Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shafi.
