SRINAGAR: At least nine people were killed and 19 others injured when a van carrying them fell off a narrow hilly road near Muzaffarabad city of Pakistan administered Kashmir, reports said Thursday.
Police and rescue teams said the incident took place on Pir Chinasi road in the east of Muzaffarabad city.
Officials said the van was overloaded and carrying 28 people, double than the actual capacity. It was heading to Muzaffarabad.
According to witnesses, the van met the accident when it went out of driver’s control negotiating a curve on narrow and steep Pir Chinasi Road.
Rescue operations were underway at the scene.
The dead and injured were shifted to Muzaffarabad hospital where medics pronounced two people dead on arrival whereas seven others later succumbed to injuries. At least 19 passengers were injured in the mishap.
