ANANTNAG: Life in the South Kashmir remained paralyzed on Thursday as Anantnag parliamentary constituency went to polls amid strict restrictions and the strike call given by Hurriyat conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani which was supported by other pro-freedom groups. Scores of persons were injured in violent clashes between the angry youth and paramilitary CRPF troopers in almost all the district of South Kashmir.
Huneds of CRPF troopers and policemen deployed in the different parts of the South Kashmir didnt allow the people from outside South to enter into any part of the district. Only people from journalist fraternity and government employees manage to enter into the jurisdiction of South Kashmir. Concertina wires were placed at different exit and entry points to restrict the movement.
Reports said that soon after the polling was over, scores of youth took to the streets at scores of places in Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam and adjoining areas during evening hours and staged anti-poll protests. Policemen and CRPF troopers deployed there resorted to baton charge and fired tear smoke canisters to disperse them. Protesters offered stiff resistance and retaliated by pelting stones in the ensuing clashes number of youth, including few policemen and troopers sustained injuries.
Shops and business establishments remained closed while the transport remained off the roads in South Kashmir. ()
