SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party Thursday blamed the National Conference for creating fear psychosis in Shopian and Pulwama districts of South Kashmir that led to a low turnout in the Anantnag Parliamentary constituency.
No doubt there was boycott in certain areas but despite that people mustered courage to come out and vote. But the problem is that National Conference is enjoying its perpetuated alienation among people. It was a deliberate attempt by NC and its supporters to create fear among the people as PDP had no opposition in these two districts. In 2008 despite Amarnath land row people came out in large numbers in these districts to vote in favour of PDP, chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar said.
Akhtar alleged NC government allowed good percentage of voting only in those areas which are there strongholds. In Noorabad where we have competition with NC and in Dooru and Kokernag where we are competing with Congress polling percentage was good. But in those constituencies where we had no competition fear psychosis was created which forced the voters to stay inside their homes, he claimed.
Akhter said that despite all odds witnessed today, PDP is hopeful to take the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat comfortably.
Meanwhile PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that she is hopeful for a win.
Talking to KNS, Mehbooba said the trust reposed by the people in the system in most of the areas is encouraging and it would certainly help in carrying forward PDPs efforts to find a solution to our problems of political and developmental in nature.
