PULWAMA: At least 8 CRPF personnel were injured in three different incidents of stone throwing across the South Kashmirs Pulwama town. The polls are due here on Thursday. Several vehicles were also damaged.
Eyewitnesses said scores of vehicles carrying Para-military troopers left for Sambora Pampore from Pulwama Stadium during afternoon hours.
Giving details police sources said scores of youth attacked the convoy of CRPF vehicles near Kakapora. “The stone-pelters caused damage to various vehicles but reports said that under attack CRPF personnel exercised maximum restraint. Four CRPF personnel were injured in the attack.”
Reports said as the same CRPF convoy reached near Pahoo bridge of Pulwama district, the stone-pelters again attacked them and smashed the glass panes of their vehicles. Eyewitnesses said that at least three CRPF personnel were injured in the attack. Reports said that CRPF did not retaliate and managed to escape from the spot.
Locals said that the same CRPF convoy came under attack again at Sambora Pampore, however, this time the Para-military troopers resorted to aerial firing to disperse the stone-pelters. The aerial firing according to locals created panic in the area.
All but 8 CRPF personnel were injured and 12 of their vehicles got damaged in these three attacks.
CRPF spokesperson Kishor Prasad said that he would confirm whether these incidents occurred or not.
Station House Officer Pampore, Amit Kumar said that few youth tried to pelt stones at CRPF vehicles but the Force personnel did not resorted to aerial firing.
