SRINAGAR: Police has detained several youth in various areas of South Kashmir on Wednesday, keeping in view the Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held on April 24 in Anantnag parliamentary seat.
According to the reports received by , police on Wednesday launched a massive crackdown against youth allegedly involved in various stone pelting incidents in the area. The police has taken into preventive custody more than 200 youth reportedly.
A senior police official while pleading anonymity told that to prevent any disruption in law and order situation, police has taken several youth in preventive detention. The reports informed further that to foil any anti-election demonstrations; a tight vigil is also being maintained across the constituency.
Sources informed further that after the killing of Panchayat members recently, panic has gripped the area with the people reportedly feeling insecure to move out of their homes. The top priority of the administration including police is to ensure secure conduction of the polls in Anantnag on April 24.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) Anantnag Sheikh Junaid told that the police has taken all the necessary measures to ensure smooth conduct of the polls on April 24. He added that some trouble mongers have also been kept under preventive police custody so that law and order situation could not get disturbed.
As the people of South Kashmir are going to decide the fate of the political players, the main tussle is expected between the NC and PDP. NC and congress has jointly nominated Mehboob Beigh while as PDP has fielded its president Mehbooba Mufti from South Kashmirs turf.
