SRINAGAR: In view of the forecast for more snow and fragile situation following the police firing in Bandipore which left a 17 year old youth dead, authorities Saturday announced extension of holidays in schools till March 20.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shalinder Kumar told reporters immediately after holding detailed meet with the DCs here, stated that the administration is fully prepared to tackle the problems caused due to the snowfall as predicted by weather department.
The Met office had earlier issued a handout in which heavy to moderate snowfall was predicted in the Valley from March 15 to 18.
Div Com stated further that educational institutes in the Valley shall remain closed till March 20.
Commenting over the possible crises following the snowfall, Div Com stated that every district will get 18 men from SDRF who will be assigned to electric department.
He added further that till the weather improves, snow cutters will leave their headquarters at 4 am on daily basis and that efforts were being made so that we have at least one dewatering pump in every locality here so that the issue of water logging could be avoided.
