Govt orders probe
SRINAGAR: One person was killed while two others were injured when police opened fire on protesters in Naidkhai area of Bandipore district late Friday evening.
Reports said that groups of youth took to streets after Friday prayers and clashed with personals of 8th Battalion of Indian Reserve Police (IRP).
The clashes continued till evening during which police resorted to teargas shelling to control the situation, reports added.
However situation took an ugly turn later in the evening when police personnel opened fire at Naidkhai Bazar resulting injuries to three persons.
The injured were rushed to Pattan hospital where a youth identified as Farhat Ahmad Dar (18) son of Ghulam Rasool Dar of Shah Gund, Sumbal succumbed to his injuries.
As the news about the killing spread in the Naidkhai area, hundreds of people including men, women and children came out of their homes and staged massive anti-India protests.
The Deputy Commissioner, Bandipore Shah Faisal when contacted said that the stone pelting incidents in the area takes place after almost every Friday prayer and that today when the youth were pelting stones on forces, they resorted to firing that resulting into the killing of one person while has three two others have been injured.
He said that according to forces, protesters tried to set ablaze the police vehicle due to which they resorted to firing. I have ordered a magisterial probe into the incident and additional district magistrate will conduct the inquiry into the killing of one person
