SRINAGAR: While the Opposition Peoples Democratic Party had demanded the inclusion of left out areas for new administrative units and appealed the Governor N N Vohra to intervene on the issue, the party was cold to the announcement of a new committee by chief minister to look into the issue.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made the announcement in the legislative assembly in the absence of PDP legislators who were boycotting the house for the second consecutive day Wednesday.
Reacting to the announcement a PDP spokesman termed it a mere eye wash and stated that the government had already thrown S S Biloria and Mushtaq Ganaie report into the dustbin.
They did nothing on merit, everything was done politically, said PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar.
He said that while Mushtaq Ganaie worked for the proposal for three years and S S Boleria worked for two years but nothing was implemented at the end. Our simple question to the government is that if you can create 659 units in a week, what stops you from giving two to three hundred more units to the neglected areas of the state, said Akhtar, adding that the announcement of Omar carries no weight.
He said that the party had already written to the governor NN Vohra and would wait for the outcome.
