SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani was arrested at Srinagar Airport on Saturday as he arrived from Delhi after treatment.
A spokesman of Geelanis Hurriyat said that Geelani was taken to his residence by a large police party from airport and was kept under house arrest.
Large police party since morning guarded the Huriyat office and they neither allow anyone to go inside nor they allow us to leave.Ayaz Akbar said adding that he too remains confined at his office from the last three days.
Providing details about Geelanis arrest, Akbar stated that Geelani was arrested by police at Srinagar airport after he arrived today at 2 P.M from Delhi. He went to Delhi for treatment on January 21 and after 18 days he returned to Srinagar.
Akbar said that police has continued its action against the leaders and activists of Huriyat G and that hundreds of its men have been detained by police across valley. On Saturday more than 50 men of our amalgam have been detained by police and senior Huriyat leaders Ashraf Sehraie, Altaf Shah and Mohammad Ashraf Laya continue to remain under house arrest.
Meanwhile, the spokesman stated that the district president Islamabad (Anantnag) of Huriyat G Mir Hafiiz-ullah, district president Doda Malik Noor Fayaz, Baramula Abdul Gani Bhat have been detained by police on Saturday.
Geelani has called for shutdown and protests on February 9, 10 and 11 to press for the demand of the return of the remains of Bhat and Guru.
