SRINAGAR: Work in hospitals across Kashmir was suspended today, as Doctors Association of Kashmir called for a day long strike demanding exemplary punishment to former health minister Shabir Khan.
Scores of doctors and para-medical staff assembled outside SMHS Hospital and staged a protest urging police administration to nab the accused former minister Shabir Khan without any delay. The protesting doctors termed the incident shameful and said that such incidents bring disrepute to the medical profession that is known for humility and nobility.
Due to strike of the doctors, the normal functioning got affected in the Kashmir hospitals. Most of the routine work in hospitals was suspended, however, emergency services were not affected.
The patients had to wait hours at the OPD block due to the suspension of work by the doctors.
However, senior doctors attended duties at OPD block and wards to minimize the impact of the strike in the hospital.
President Doctors Association Kashmir, Dr Nisar-ul-Hasan said that the protest and strike was symbolic, to show solidarity with the complainant and all others who have been suffering at the hands of sexual predators.
If the accused politician is not given exemplary punished and arrested, we will call for indefinite strike, he said.
