SRINAGAR: The Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) has resented the reported plans to appoint former medical superintendent of G B Pant Hospital Dr Javed Choudhary as the principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar.
In a statement issued here, President DAK Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan said that Dr Choudharys appointment as principal GMC Srinagar was unacceptable as he has brought disrepute and disgrace to the sacrosanct medical profession.
Dr Hassan said that DAK will agitate and leave no stone unturned to get the proposed appointment cancelled.
This is shocking that a tainted person whose criminal negligence and professional misconduct was responsible for thousands of infant deaths will be assigned an important responsibility. This decision has hurt the sentiments and emotions of those parents who have lost their loved ones because of Chowdarys negligence, the statement said.
The association asked government to refrain from appointing Dr Choudhary as the Principal GMC and demanded an expert panel for selection of principal GMC Srinagar.
This irresponsible decision from the government has shaken the nation and send shivers down our spines. It is surprising that on one hand people want perpetrators to be punished, on the other hand government are rewarding them by promotions. His appointment will be disastrous for the people of the state and will hollow the pillars of a sacred institution.
DAK said that Dr Choudhary had been indicted by two enquires, (one by Dr Showkat Ali Zargar and other by house committee of legislators headed by Choudhary Ramzan) for negligence and dereliction of his duties.
They have proved his administrative and academic failure leading to infant deaths. They recommended criminal and disciplinary action against the corrupt practices of Dr Choudhary.
He said that Dr Choudhary was responsible for promoting substandard drugs in G B Pant Hospital and was forcing junior doctors to write prescriptions of a substandard company.
Dr Choudhary was responsible for misappropriation of hospital development funds and had appointed his aides at lucrative places who were involved in diverting hospital patients to Dr Choudharys clinic.
Dr Hassan alleged that the government exonerated the tainted medico by a concocted report which was in contradiction to previous enquiry reports.
He blamed government for promoting tainted officials. These tainted officials act as pawns of government functionaries. Politicians are using these tainted officials for their wrongdoings. He said
