SRINAGAR: Suspected militants fired upon a party of Special Operation Group (SOG) of police at Kangan in Pulwama district of South Kashmir Friday evening.
According to sources, the shootout started at around 6 pm after which the village was immediately cordoned by the SOG, 53 RR, 55 RR and 183rd battalion of CRPF which resulted in a fierce shootout.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir A G Mir said that two militants are trapped in a house.
We have halted the operation and it will be resumed early in the morning tomorrow. He said.
Unconfirmed reports said that one of the two militants trapped in the house has been killed.
Man kidnapped in Sopore
Unidentified gunmen allegedly kidnapped a former militant in north Kashmirs Arampora area of Sopore town.
Police said that some unidentified gunmen entered into a house at Hyder Colony, Arampora, Sopore during the intervening night of Jan 29-30 and kidnapped Mushtaq Ahmad Changa son of late Ghulam Rasool aged 35 years.
Sources said that Mushtaq was a former militant but presently he was running a vegetable shop.
Police has registered a case and Special Operation Group personnel, 22 RR and CRPF personnel from 179 Battalion cordoned of Shiva area of Sopore after the inputs that kidnappers are hiding in the area. Reports said that search operation was launched in the area to track down the kidnappers, however, no one was arrested.
