SRINAGAR: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today said that the Pakistans present dispensation is not serious about the Kashmir resolution and that he has not seen any evidence of progress on Kashmir front in the recent past.
Omar told Stephen Sackur in BBCs HARD Talk programme that the Nawaz Sherif government in Pakistan is talking about trade and bilateral relations but they have not uttered a single word on Kashmir.
They talk of trade, bilateral relations but not one word about Kashmir- that is different from their previous stated positions.
Asked why he had not discussed the issue with the Pakistani government, Omar explained: “We don’t have good neighbourly relations,”
He stated further that some people in Pakistan would like nothing more than to “see the end” of him. One of the reasons that I have so much security in my fortified compound is that some people in Pakistan would like nothing more than to see end of me.
When asked about the stand taken by the former Pakistans president General Musharraf about Kashmir and the issues related to demilitarisation, Omar said that the great opportunity was lost with Gen Musharraf lost power. If the present government would accept what Gen Musharraf had laid out, we would be much closer to the solution.
