Thousands join Hizb militants funeral in Pulwama

SRINAGAR: Thousands of people Wednesday attended the funeral prayers of Wasim Ahmad Dar, a Hizbul Mujahideen militant, who was killed in an encounter in Awantipora area of south Kashmirs Pulwama district.

Reports said that thousands of people today staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations in Dogarpora, Wanipora area of Awantipora to protest the killing of Hizb militant, Wasim Ahmad, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar in a brief, but fierce gun-battle with army on Tuesday night.

Women mourners were seen beating their chests while angry youth shouted pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Later, Wasims body was taken in a procession to the Martyrs graveyard. Amid tears and sobs, he was laid to rest.

Meanwhile, a police official said that a case FIR No 03/2014, under section 307 RPC, 7/27 IA Act has been registered into the Tuesdays incident.

Searches for Lashkar militants continue in Sopore

Meanwhile search operations continued Wednesday in Sopore town of north Kashmir where a police officer was killed and three policemen injured in an encounter with militants on Tuesday.

Reports said that SOG, army and CRPF carried out searches in several localities of the town, including Chinkipora, where two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants, Muzaffar Molvi and Abu Huraira, a Pakistani national escaped after killing a police officer and injuring three cops during a brief encounter on Tuesday morning. Besides frisking the youth, the joint teams also asked them to produce identity cards. The passenger and private vehicles were also checked at many places in the town.

Besides it, sniffer dogs were also used by the teams to search the militants. The searches continued throughout the day. However, no one was arrested, reports said.
