SRINAGAR: Weatherman Tuesday issued an advisory regarding moderate to heavy snowfall for next three days beginning Wednesday. The weather system is likely to disrupt air and surface transport in the Valley, it said.
Moderate to heavy snow will occur at many places in Kashmir and Jammu divisions and at a few places in Ladakh region particularly in Zogila, Drass and Kargil hilly areas, Director Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus said in the advisory issued as a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the state from 8 to January 10. The main activity of the Western Disturbance is on 9 January (Thursday), an official of the Meteorological Department here said.
Isolated places may receive very heavy snow fall. This system is likely to move in East-North-East ward direction, he added.
This system is likely to disrupt surface and air transport systems of the state, he said, adding, During above period day temperatures may fall by 5-6 deg cel and night temperature may rise 2-3 deg Celsius.
Meanwhile, Srinagar witnessed a further drop in night temperature, recording a low of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius against minus 2.3 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Gulmarg remained the coldest place in the valley. The hill resort, teeming with tourists, recorded a low of minus 11.6 degrees Celsius against minus 9.7 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir, was the second coldest in Valley, recording a minimum of minus 7.4 degrees Celsius against minus 14.7 degrees Celsius on previous night.
Qazigund and its neighboring Kokernag had a minimum of minus 4.4 and minus 5.2 degrees Celsius respectively, the MeT official said.
Frontier Kupwara district in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius against minus 1.8 degrees Celsius yesterday, the MeT office said.
Ladakh region continued to reel under intense cold with its capital city Leh, recording a minimum of minus 17.4 degrees Celsius while second populated area in the cold desert, Kargil had a low of minus 19.0 degrees Celsius, the weatherman added.
