SRINAGAR: Two timber smugglers who were disguising as militants during the last night at Tral area of Awantipora were arrested by police.
The duo identified as Ishfaq Ahamd Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Chewllar, Tral and Bilal Ahmad Magray son of Mohammad Akbar resident of Chana Kitaar, Tral were spotted by an Army ambush of 42 RR last night at Nai Basti, Tral along with an AK 47, a police official in a statement. On being challenged the duo fled from the spot and threw their weapons away. They were chased and later held. The weapon they threw away was found to be a toy AK 47.
During investigations it was found that the duo was involved in timber smuggling and used to spread terror among the local by masquerading as militants carrying a toy AK 47, so that they could make good of the nefarious activity during the night, he said.
A case FIR number 73/2013 under section 28, 25B Act has been registered in police station Tral, the spokesman added.
