SRINAGAR: The militants, who attacked a CRPF patrol in Nowgam, had damaged the rifle of a jawan to prevent him from returning the fire, official sources said.
The injured trooper Surinder Kumar Roy, who is currently undergoing treatment at the armys 92 base hospital, told his investigators Thursday that the militants damaged his rifle when he tried to point his gun at them, sources said. After damaging his service rifle, Roy said that attackers shot at him leaving him in a pool of blood.
Later, the militants took away service rifle of the ASI and fled from the scene, Roy, sources said, told the investigators.
On Wednesday, Unknown militants opened random fire upon a road opening party of CRPF 29 Battalion (B Company) near Pohru Chowk resulting in on the spot death of an officer and injuring another. The slain officer was later identified as ASI, Udit Narayan.
The injured jawan, identified as Constable Surinder Kumar Roy, is undergoing treatment at armys 92 base hospital here.
Meanwhile, police today registered a case under FIR no. 154/2013 u/s 302, 307 RPC and 7/27 I A Act in police station Nowgam.
Police sources confirmed that a service weapon along with a magazine of the slain ASI, Udit Narayen had been taken away by the militants. gns
