SRINAGAR: An Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) activist was detained Tuesday by police for tearing the buntings of ruling National Conference near the historic Ganta Ghar here.
The youth, whose name could not be ascertained, was allegedly beaten to pulp by the police when he tore the buntings of NC while AIP President, Er Rashid was addressing the party activists, eyewitnesses said.
The youth offered stiff resistance when the cops came to arrest him but they overpowered him, bundled him in a parked police van before whisking him to an undisclosed location, eyewitnesses added.
