Apropos the news of the passing of Nelson Mandela, Icon of the century. Since Mandela spent his life in jails for the cause of his people to end apartheid with determination and sincerity he will be remembered for long time to come. His fight with determination ultimately yielded fruit for the Africans who fought shoulder to shoulder with the departed leader for a very long time. Late Nelson Mandela never succumbed to any pressure and had no reservations but his priorities and compulsions were the apartheid. He took the cause as a sacred mission with sincerity and honesty and the people followed him like bees on the honeycomb. Nelson is the only man to have become icon of the world by his qualities, determination, will, sincerity and above all his stature and caliber which will embolden the world leaders for the like-wise cause.
Let me turn to Kashmiri leaders who have been fighting for the core kashmir issue and other atrocities faced by the people of the state over the years which seem unending if we take the view of unwarranted and unplanned way of our leaders. The role of our leaders seem confined to mere press statements rather than any meaningful action. The main problem we face is the plenty of leaders with different ideologies and different agendas that too from different plate forms. This has put the people of the state to various miseries and hardships. The factor at various crucial stages with different ideologies has cost the people of the state dearly. The leaders seem not giving cognizance to each others aspirations and programs which only prove counter-productive for them. The state has already suffered both on economical and developmental fields apart from the sacrifices people have rendered during a long spell of 24 years and the people have not even gained even a point and are suffering more than before. It is very easy to name any leader after Lion of the desert, Yasir Arafat or Mandela of Kashmir.
The qualities and path of the late Mandela is an eye opener for our local leaders and is a lesson for them to behave like a real leaders which can free them from the messy situation they find themselves in now. It is high time for our leadership to negotiate with each other first before they call for talks with their enemies.
