JAMMU: Security has been beefed up in this winter capital of the state while the venue has been placed under siege ahead of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s rally scheduled for December 1.
Tight security cover has been put in place for Modi’s December 1 rally with additional deployment of troops from both state police and the para-military forces, a senior police official said.
“As the M A Stadium – the venue for rally – is situated in the heart of the city – we have to maintain high alert and surveillance around it,” he said adding that the venue has been put under siege while the cordon has been laid by raising blockades and barricades besides police pickets along the bank of River Tawi.
“The sports activities inside the main Stadium has been suspended from the last week while only officials with authentic identity cards are being allowed to visit the offices,” he added.
He further said that dog squads are pressed into service inside the stadium for frisking while security personnel at the main gate and the entrance of the stadium are directed to maintain the register of individuals visiting the offices inside the venue.
“Besides state police, para-military troops will also be deployed in and around the venue for smooth conduct of the rally,” he said.
The BJP is holding block and tehsil level meetings ahead of rally and also distributing pamphlets among the locals, schools and colleges inviting them to attend the rally in large.
