SRINAGAR: The students at Kashmir University today prevented the shoot of Bollywood film, ” Haider” after the fil unit raised Indian bational flag on the sets.
The film starring Shahid Kapoor, Irfan Khan and Sharrda Kapoor was being shot at the Naseem Bagh campus of the university.
Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) said the students protested after the crew tried to hoist the Indian tri-colour in the campus as part of their shoot.
Students also objected to Irfan Khan, one of the actors, when he was spotted smoking a cigar or something inside the smoke free campus. Much to the liking of the students, Irfan Khan had to lit off his cigarette and the Indian tricolour was also brought down. But later, the two of the brave students who objected Irfan Khan for smoking were covertly arrested and in a jiffy were whisked away to Police station Nageen, a KUSU spokesman said.
It added that when the news of the arrest reached the hostels, scores of the students circled set of the movie and protested, forcing Vishal Bharadwaj, the director of the film to call for a pack-up. Later hundreds of our Kashmir policemen used batons on the students and chased them away to the hostels, and locked hostel gates.
The students somehow came out of the hostels and raised pro freedom and anti-India slogans in the campus. After situation got out of control, proctor Naseer Iqbal managed the release of both the arrested students and promised a prompt action against the security personnel.
The banned KUSU highly condemns the use of force against the students inside the campus and asks the varsity officials to demand stern action against the rowdy policemen & forces. KUSU also stands by the students of the hostel and their sentiments, the statement added.
