Ex-BOPEE chairman was involved in KU computer scam as well
SRINAGAR: Former Chairman of Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE), Mustaq Ahmed Pir , who is in dock over CET paper selling scam was also involved in computer scam at Kashmir University during his tenure as Head of the KU Computer Sciences Department.
A senior professor of Science faculty told CNS on condition of anonymity that the accused embezzled huge chunk of money in 2002 by purchasing substandard computers and other electronic appliances. Go and check the records. Once his wrong doings came to fore, then Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Jalees Ahemd Khan Tareen tried to initiate action against Mr Pir but political intervention stopped him from doing so, he said.
JAK Tareen is presently VC of B S Abdur Rehman University Chennai.
Another professor said that when VC was likely to take action against the accused, a Congress Minister then intervened and the file was closed forever.
The VC had directed then Registrar, Prof Abdul Majid Matoo to probe the fraud but he could not act due to political intervention, he said.
